Camps 2011

Over the last few months we have had the opportunity to run four incredible camps.  This would not have been possible without so many of you who partnered with us by praying, giving or coming to Nicaragua. Camp was a huge team effort and worth every minute.

The majority of the children came from the Managua city dump and surrounding area.  Our last two camps had quite a few children from a refugee camp that is in a local school yard.  The refugees once called the dump "home" but because of the severe flooding in the fall of 2010 they were displaced along with hundreds of others into a school yard where they have been living the last 10 months.

The pure joy that radiated from every child throughout the three days of camp was priceless. Most of them have never left their area that surrounds the city dump, let alone the city.  So, an opportunity to go to beautiful "Campo Alegría" where they learned that there was hope, joy and freedom in our friend name Jesus, were able to swim in a clean lake, play freely, eat three meals a day, see the active volcano across the lake and just be kids... a once in a lifetime event.

Without fail, every Friday, we have kids run up to us, while we are at the Children's Center for the feeding program.  Each of them hoping for an opportunity to go to camp.  They have heard so many stories and they are excited to experience camp themselves.  Most of them have never left their own neighborhood, let alone the city of Managua.  So, an opportunity to go to beautiful Campo Alegría (Camp Joy) is a once in a lifetime event.

We have been blessed by so many friends, family and teams who made these camps possible.  God is so faithful!
