The Dream Team

In 2007 our friends and fellow missionaries Jon and Wilma Hall were ministering on the street in Acauhalinca with their "El Camino" Sidewalk Sunday School truck.  Once a week for 12 weeks they went with their children's ministry team to reach the children in this impoverished community. Many children accepted Christ for the first time during those 12 weeks.  Shortly after completing that 12 week discipleship program Jon and Wilma began an ongoing weekly Children's outreach and feeding program.  The feeding program continued to grow and grow and that is when "Wilma's dream" started to become a reality.  As of today, there is a beautiful 2 story building under construction that is the future Children's Center of Acauhalinca.  Plans for completion are well underway and we are excited for all the ministry that will be able to take place out of the Children's Center.

In 2006 when we visited Nicaragua for the first time, this same community was one of the areas we had a heart to minister in.  Once we made the move to Nicaragua, the Hall's lovingly invited us to visit their Friday feeding program.  We fell in love with the children and we have had the honor of spending lots of time serving along side our dear friends, Jon and Wilma, in this very poor community.

Coming out of youth ministry in the states, when we first heard about the Children's Center, we were excited about the possibility of taking these kids out of their seemingly hopeless situations and pouring Christ's love into them during a 3 day camp.  We also dreamed of training these young Nicaraguans to go out into their surrounding communities and share Christ's love with other children and youth who have yet to hear the Gospel.  We firmly believe that future leaders, Pastors and Missionaries will come from this Children's Center.

This summer, along with the Michigan AIM team, we were able to take 50 kids from the Children's Center on a 3 day camp.  Our desire was to share Christ's love with those who had not yet accepted Christ and build deeper relationships with those who had.  Out of those 50 kids that came to camp this summer, we have had the opportunity start an evangelism team.  A few weeks ago, along with our Engage team, we started training.  One of our Engage students has appropriately named them the "Dream Team".

Yesterday was a very special day. Words will never describe the love and joy that filled our ministry van as we loaded up our family, the Engage team and the DREAM TEAM.  Together we headed out to meet Jon and Wilma and the "El Camino" truck.  Our place of ministry was one of the worst parks in Managua that is well known for its poverty, violence, gangs and drug activity.  It was a beautiful sight to see these young people so full of joy and have the opportunity to leave their community and go and tell other children about Jesus!  Just amazing......   We thank God for every one of these young people and the opportunity He has given us to make disciples.  Enjoy the pictures and feel free to rejoice with us.
