Worth the Climb!

This past week we journied north into the mountains of Nicaragua.  I hope you can appreciate the special moments the Lord gave us on this ministry journey to share his love with His precious children.
Just shy of 6 hours into our trip we blew a tire in a very remote mountain area, which turned into a special memory for us and the people in the community.   Slowly kids started peeking their heads around from behind trees to see the americans on the side of the road changing the tire.
Leanna (Engage student) and I started playing with the kids.  They quickly grew in number and we were singing songs, painting faces and making lots of new friends.  The little guy in the picture wanted "Bob Esponja" painted so badly,  good thing Bob was on his shirt to look at because I am the farthest thing from an artist.
The first night after we arrived we showed a christian movie to the boys at the Farming School of Hope, followed by a beautiful time of prayer for each of the young people.  The second night, Jeff (Engage Student) spoke into the boys' lives and Tiffany (Engage leader) lead us all in worship.  It is awesome to see God use our Engage team together. Afterwards, we had a time of fellowship and tons of fun just building relatioships with the youth.

The second day we drove a little farther up in the mountains where you can only enter during dry season.  Interesting enough, in the middle of dry season it began to rain and there was no way we could get any further.  So, about 20 minutes from our destination we found a farmer to watch our vehicle and we hiked the rest of the way in.  Once we arrived, it was so rewarding.  We had a beautiful time of ministering to the children before having the honor to serve them what is likely their only meal of the day.  Thanks to the hike, we were able to appreciate the beautiful mountain view.  Since the hike in was mainly down hill the entire way, we were okay. Coming back up was a completely different story and took at least 3x as long, but definitely worth the climb!
We were greeted by a christian mariachi band very early in the morning on the day we were headed back to the capital.  It was LOUD and eventful.  We were all wide awake by the last song.  It was beautiful to watch them worship the lord through their culture and music.

We thank God for His protection and provision to be able to go and share His love throughout Nicaragua.
