Move In Day - Where's The Water?

Jan. 5th was our official day to move into our house. As mentioned before, there was quite a bit of work that needed to be done on the house (and a lot more to go). It was a great day however I must be honest, the reality of the possibility of culture shock set in real fast. You see, the thing is, there is no water "during the day." Had we been aware of that, it would not have come as such a shock. So, trying to clean a house to move into was, well... virtually impossible. We piled everything up in one room and decided that we would let the kids play outside and run around until the water came on. There is no grass around our house, it is all dirt (for now) and this is the windy/dry season. There are no screens to help keep it out, so, the amount of dirt and dust is well..incredible. So, we waited and swept and organized and kept waiting for the water to come on thinking to ourselves. What exactly do they mean by "no water during the day" Does that mean 8am-5pm? Sun up to sun down? 10am-4pm? Well, apparently, from experience over the last few days it means that it comes on at night between 8 and 11 and stays on during the night until between 4-6 in the morning. So, needless to say, we have learned quickly to store up water for the following day.

The kids have jumped right in and are helping around the house getting things in order. They are also quick to help fill in the blanks when mom and dad don't remember the correct Spanish word. They also enjoy hanging the laundry out to dry, kind of a novelty to them. Oh, and about the kids playing outside in the dirt, they LOVE it...however, only when there is water to clean up afterward.

We do not have internet yet, so please be patient with us as the updates may be slow coming for a while. Today we had the opportunity to use the internet at one of the training centers in Managua.
