Convoy Of Hope

Sometimes it's like what my friend once told me, "You have to earn the right to be heard." Showing Christ's love in a practical way is doing just that. It's a way that shows others that there is a God that hasn't forgotten, that hasn't stopped loving, and that hasn't stopped hearing the cries of His children. It happens when we start seeing people the way that Christ sees them and we are compelled by compassion to act. So when I heard that a fellow missionary with Convoy of Hope received some wheelchairs, walkers, and even a hospital bed to give to a very poor hospital and community in Nicaragua, I wanted to act.

I can't even put in words how much it meant to the people in that community. They were so grateful. The director of the hospital greeted us and even the vice-mayor of the town came out and made an appearance. We presented the wheelchairs, walkers, and a bed to this very poor hospital on behalf of the North Americans and Convoy of Hope. After the presentation, we had an opportunity to pray with them.

From there, we went to a very rundown-looking shack, along the road. This is where a very sweet, elderly lady lives, who is confined to a chair. For years, she stated, that she has always sat by the window, looking out, praying that someone that passes by would just stop and help her. Well, that day was the day her faith was strengthened. We presented her with a wheelchair and also had an opportunity to share the love of Christ with her and to pray for her.

We also stopped at another house where we witnessed a mother taking care of her child that has a severe case of multiple sclerosis. The look on both their faces when they saw us bring in a wheelchair, so the mother didn't have to carry this young boy around everywhere, was priceless. This 16 year old boy, with a crippled body of a 9 year old, shouted with excitement. It brought so much joy to my heart, just to see this mother and son so happy. Once again, I had the opportunity to share about the love of Christ with them and pray for them before we left.

All three contacts were made possible by working alongside a national pastor in that community. That pastor even gave me permission to speak an "encouraging word" to his teachers at the school, which was connected to his church, before we traveled home for the day.

Showing Christ's love in a practical way that was made available because people like yourself acted upon a compelling sense of compassion and seeing the need for the love of Christ to be shared. On behalf of the people that were forever touched today, THANK YOU.
