ENGAGE Nicaragua, Fall 2010!

This entire past year, I have consistently found myself coming back to Matthew 9:35-38. It’s a passage that we all know well but it has really consumed me this year in Nicaragua. It talks about Jesus and states, “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Imagine that God would allow this ministry to be used in that way; healing every disease and sickness. What impact on Nicaragua would come about for the Kingdom of God? Now imagine, with me, the impact on Nicaragua if there was a program in Nicaragua that exists to empower students to clarify the call of God in their life while being provided the opportunity to fulfill the Great Commission.

We are excited to announce the start of, “ENGAGE NICARAGUA.” Engage is a program designed to meet the need to empower a generation of young people by providing a cross-cultural platform to clarify the call of God on their lives and concurrently/simultaneously pursue a quality education from an accredited institution in the US. This would at the same time supply the Nicaragua national church with a workforce full of servant-leaders.

ENGAGE is based on four pillars: Education, Experience, Discipleship and Mentorship. Students are invited from any region of the world to serve here, in Nicaragua, from a semester to two years in a context where they will be mentored and trained. The opportunity for students to explore the call of God on their lives is the primary goal of Engage. An ENGAGE student is ENGAGED in the daily job of coming along the national church and reaching people for Christ. That includes, but is not limited to: serving, teaching, preaching, witnessing, evangelistic outreaches, feeding centers, camps, and assisting local pastors.
