The Dog Days of Summer

Almost everyone knows that the “dog days of summer” refers to the hottest and muggiest part of summer.  Actually Webster defines “dog days” as... 1. The period between early July and early Sept. when the hot sultry weather of summer usually occurs in the northern hemisphere.  2. A period of stagnation or inactivity

Well, in Nicaragua, that is not the case.  You see, during these “dog days of summer,” we have been receiving teams from the states and they can tell you that there is no period of stagnation or inactivity when you come to Nicaragua to be used by God.  Some of them might tell you that it’s still hot and muggy but let the truth be told; Nicaragua’s hottest and muggiest months are March and April.

What these teams might not tell you is what an incredible blessing they were to the future of Nicaragua.  Our family had the honor and privilege to host three amazing teams.  We were witnesses to the many sacrifices of the Michigan AIM team as they gave, 50 kids from the poorest part of the country, a camp of their life.  Literally showing Christ’s love, one child at a time, for 60 hours straight.

We were right there, when the Faith Community team went above and beyond and unselfishly traveled and gave of themselves to bless four small church plants with their awesome VBS and youth programs.  Whether we got there by 4x4 or panga boats, this team was ready to serve and allow God to move in the services.

Lastly, we were just in awe of how generous and compassionate the Holland First construction team was.  Not only did they put in the drop ceiling and ceramic tile for a children's outreach center, in the heart of the poorest part of the country, but also they did it while ministering personally with the children.  Each day, they took time to invest into the children, not just the building that will be used by them.

We are eternally grateful for these amazing teams and most importantly, their God-like attitudes they brought with them.  I have learned that not all teams are created equal, but I assure you that Nicaragua has been impacted by the love of these teams and for that, we say, THANK YOU.
